Roger brought a great balance of leadership, partnership and design expertise to our team that very much needed direction in the XD space. He is more than a design manager: he is a leader and someone I could count on to be thoughtful about decision making, have career development for his team top of mind, and counsel me in areas where I had blind spots. Working with Roger has been a career highlight for me. He is a talented, respected design leader. I watched Roger transform our experience design team, bringing structure to the way we worked and elevating the design craft across the team. Roger knows how to combine big ideas and innovation with structure/frameworks to entice his stakeholders AND coach his team members. I have seen Roger transform a discordant room of leaders and executives into a room full of purpose, hard work and discussion, and eventually, the ever-sought after, shared alignment. Roger knows the value of quick iteration yet his user research and designs are highly data-driven and adhere to human centric best practices (a rare combination). Roger consistently inspired our team to do its best work by building up his peers and ensuring the participants we engaged felt heard. In the chaos of quick turnarounds and questionable deadlines, Roger was always collected, focused on our users, and able to find scrappy ways to quickly add value. Roger was my design manager at Wayfair and I could not have asked for anyone better. To say he was an absolute pleasure to work with is an understatement. Not only did Roger manage to unite 2 business verticals across the 20k+ person organization by managing the entire Talent and Enterprise Design team, but he also seamlessly was able to unite all 3 disciplines of design within the team: Product Design, UX Research, and Content Strategy. Roger joined Wayfair and within his first few weeks began leading the team to a more holistic approach to user experience design. Roger has an incredible ability to create structure and order, regardless of the scenario. If there is ambiguity, he's the first person I reach out to. On several occasions, I've observed Roger take on large-scale, ill-defined initiatives and work diligently to create clarity, establish a vision, and build consensus. He's even brought this skill to bear in helping to improve our team's internal operations. I've learned so much by working with Roger...I even coined the phrase, "WWRD?" because he's such a reliable source of insight and guidance.

Roger earns my highest regard as a designer, leader, and mentor. Roger led the development of our XD team. I firmly believe why the team is successful and high-performing today is because he brought his strong interpersonal skills, understanding of the UX life-cycle, and strategic leadership to the table. He is not only reliable but also a high-spirited and fun leader to work with!I certainly will miss being able to talk about anything and everything with Roger; from my worries as a designer to our favorite chai latte spots in Boston. He is the ultimate design manager and any company will be lucky to have him!

Roger was an amazing leader because he created opportunities for me to demonstrate my skills and present to senior leadership/executives. In addition, Roger also provided strategic feedback on research initiatives, was a critical eye during design reviews, and a mentor. I was particularly impressed with Roger’s leadership skills while our group of UX programs were without a Manager.
